cosmetic tattooing

Before booking any permanent makeup appointments, it is required to schedule an in-person consultation with Marta. This ensures that you are a suitable candidate, facilitates a discussion about your goals, and ensures alignment between the artist and the client.

COSMETIC TATTOO PRE & POST CARE

Proper care before and after your permanent makeup procedure is important and required to achieve optimal results. Keep in mind that some intensity of color will be lost and/or the color may heal unevenly. This is normal, especially after the initial appointment. This is the reason for the follow up appointment. At your follow up appointment your artist will assess how well you healed, fill in any light areas, adjust shape and color and go a little darker or thicker if desired.

All permanent makeup clients MUST read all post/pre care instructions prior to requesting an appointment.

BROW AFTERCARE

  1. Wash your hands before touching any treated area.

  2. Cool pack (not frozen or ice) may be used to help reduce swelling or discomfort. Cooling the area is most beneficial in the first 24 hours. Sleeping slightly elevated may also help in reducing swelling.

  3. Blotting your brows with a dry paper towel or tissue: Once we have finished working we have essentially created a wound on the skin. All wounds weep or ooze fluids (blood, oil, lymph). Some may weep more than others. Blotting off these fluids and excess pigment is CRUCIAL to maintain good results and optimal retention. If these fluids remain on the tattooed area and accumulate, you WILL get heavier scabbing and poor retention. Blot the treated area every 20-30 minutes for the first few hours post procedure. Continue blotting the next day depending on how much fluid is still on the skin. If you have eyebrow hair please make sure you are blotting the tattooed skin underneath.

  4. Washing your brows: Use a mild cleanser on and around your procedure area. DO NOT USE any products that contain acids (glycolic, lactic, AHA, BHA) or any scrubs/exfoliants. Fragrance free and gentle cleansers are the way to go (Cetaphil, CeraVe). Wash brows morning and night. SHOWERING: Do NOT take exceptionally hot showers. Keep bathroom door open as to NOT cause a steam effect.

  5. Ointment: ONLY USE THE BALM THAT IS PROVIDED. NOTHING ELSE. Apply a THIN coat of ointment on procedure area 2x a day. DO NOT USE EXCESSIVELY.

  6. ABSOLUTELY NO activities that cause SWEAT and HEAT. NO EXERCISING for a minimum of 10 days. NO EXCEPTIONS. Absolutely NO lake, pools, saunas, beach activities. Stay OUT of the sun and NO TANNING. Once healed, use SPF daily to prevent premature fading.

  7. NO topical makeup on and around procedure area when healing. NO tweezing, waxing, etc. for a full 10 days MINIMUM. NO FACIALS/PEELS for a full TWO WEEKS. Your brows should be healed a minimum of 10 days before any Botox injections.

  8. Some tenderness, swelling (even minor bruising), redness, and itching is normal for the tattoo healing process. DO NOT PICK, PEEL, or SCRATCH the treated area. This could lead to scarring and infection. DON’T DO IT!

  9. Lastly…RELAX. Don’t worry about a thing. It is a tattoo that will lighten and soften in time. Follow your artists pre and post care and take it SERIOUSLY. Complications are extremely rare.

HEALING AGENDA

*Keep in mind- everyone’s skin and body reacts & heals differently so this is what to expect on average when healing.

Day 1-3: Brows will be about 15-20% darker than they will heal to be. They will also appear thicker and darker than what we drew on. This is due to oxidation and swelling. DO NOT be concerned! This is part of the healing process. Tenderness and weeping in the area is completely normal. Remember to start ointment 24/48 hours post procedure and do NOT forget to BLOT several times a day to remove any excess fluids and buildup.

Day 4-6: Scabbing begins. Keep moist but do NOT overdo it!

Day 6-10: Darker outer color finishes peeling off for most people. Some may experience some light residual scabbing which is normal. The color will be lighter and soft and the brows will appear to be a little thinner. Some areas may be light and patchy, which is normal. Give your brows a full 4 weeks to heal and for the color to richen up and bloom. DO NOT use the ointment longer than 10 days.

Next 3-6 weeks: This is called the “blooming” period. During this time all the dead, dry skin will slowly exfoliate off on its own and the color with start to richen up.

LIP BLUSH HEALING AGENDA

  • Immediately after: Lips will feel a bit sore and look quite intense. There may be some swelling and minor bruising that only lasts 1-2 days. This is all normal. Applying a cool pack (NOT ICE) can reduce bruising and swelling.

  • Day 1: Lips will be swollen & bright

  • There will be fluids that leak from the tattoo to form scabs. You do NOT want these fluids to sit on your tattoo and form excessive scabbing. It is very important to dab your lips with a wet cotton round and pat the area dry to ensure no fluids are sitting on top of the skin. When you wipe, you will see color coming off onto your cotton round. This is normal! Wipe the area every 30 minutes for the first 3 hours. After 3 hours, wipe lips every hour until bedtime. At bedtime you will apply the ointment given to you by your artist.

  • Day 2: Swelling will go down & lips will appear darker

  • Day 3: Lips will start to peel

  • Day 4-7: Peeling continues

  • Day 5-10: All peeling should be gone

  • Once the scabbing has completely fallen off you may return back to your normal routine. NOTE: You may notice that once the scabbing is gone your lips may have a milky hue to them. This is normal! This means that the surface of the skin has healed yet the layers underneath where the pigment lays still needs some time to heal and for that color to bloom. The complete healing process takes around 6 weeks.

PLEASE NOTE: Lips will heal softer and edges won’t be as crispy when healed. Results vary with each individual. It may take more than one session to achieve your desired results.

Lip blush does fade after 1-3 years depending on your skin type and lifestyle. It is recommended to get yearly touch ups to maintain best results. If you have oily skin, iron deficiency, or a very strong immune system your pigment will not last as long.

LIP BLUSH AFTERCARE

  • DO NOT touch your tattoo with dirty fingers

  • DO wear a fresh, clean mask DAILY. Dirty masks WILL lead to an infection!

  • Don’t get your tattoo wet for too long. It will make the scabs soggy and easier to fall off prematurely. You want to keep the scabs on for as long as possible to let them fall off naturally.

  • DO NOT pick scabs! This will pick off any pigment in the skin and result in uneven patches.

  • MOISTURIZE as often as possible with balm given by your artist.

  • DO NOT sleep on your face. Make sure you are sleeping on a CLEAN pillowcase to avoid infection.

  • AVOID harsh cleanser, creams, makeup, and any other products on the treated area until all the scabs have fallen off naturally.

  • DO NOT pick, scratch, or bite off scabs! Picking can cause scarring, loss of pigment, or an infection!

  • DO NOT expose your tattoo to UV rays or tanning beds for 4 weeks pre/post procedure. This will alter the appearance of your tattoo dramatically.

  • DO NOT SWEAT on the tattoo until all of the scabs have fallen off naturally.

  • NO facials, botox, chemical treatments, etc for 4 weeks post procedure.

  • DO NOT eat anything spicy, salty, citrusy.

EYELINER PRE-CARE

  • NO recent eye surgeries of ANY kind. You need to wait at least 6 months post op before proceeding. A doctor’s note may be needed.

  • NO lash growth serums! Must discontinue at LEAST 3 months prior to procedure.

  • If you have very sensitive eyes, severe allergies, watery eyes, etc. this procedure will NOT be for you. Your pigment will NOT retain.

  • NO contact lenses the day of your procedure. CLEAN contacts may be worn 72 hours post procedure. DO NOT use any saline solution!!!!! This will completely wipe out any pigment in the skin.

  • NO lash extensions! They must be off for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to procedure.

EYELINER AFTERCARE

  • NO lash serums until healed after TOUCH UP appointment

  • NO lash extensions until healed

  • NO MASCARA during healing! A completely NEW tube of mascara must be used post procedure to reduce any chance of cross contamination and infection to your eye area.

  • NO oily makeup removers, acids, mineral oils or heavy creams around eye area

  • Only use balm for 10 days or as needed. DO NOT USE TOO MUCH BALM ON THE LINER AS IT CAN IRRITATE YOUR EYES! More is not always better.

  • Eyeliner can & will have some residual pigment that may peel or flake off after a couple days. This is normal! Eyeliner tends to fade faster than brows due to the moisture in the eye area. After the touch up the color stays better and lasts longer.
