what should I do to prep for my hair removal appointment?

Gently exfoliate the area the day before with a mild scrub, dry brush or mitt to remove dead skin cells that surround the hair follicle. This helps improve your waxing/sugaring results as it exfoliates dead skin that helps loosen existing ingrown hairs. To get the best results, hair should be at least 1/4” long, approximately the size of a grain of rice (if you can grab the hair with your fingertips it should be long enough to remove). Generally speaking, that is about two weeks since shaving or 4-6 weeks since waxing/sugaring. If hair is too short it will not adhere and we will need to reschedule your appointment.

Please avoid stimulants like alcohol or caffeine before your appointment. This can make your skin more sensitive. If you are worried about pain, you can always take a pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment.

If you have a big day coming up please schedule your appointment 3-4 days before so your skin has time to soothe.

what is aftercare for waxing/sugaring?

After waxing/sugaring, your hair follicles are healing for the first 24-48 hours. It’s important to follow the rules below to prevent any bacteria from getting in your hair follicles to ensure the best results possible. It is normal to have a little redness or tenderness after hair removal.

24-48 hours after waxing/sugaring:

  • no touching the area

  • no exercising/sweating

  • no friction (tight fitting clothes, sexual contact)

  • no tanning

  • no swimming/sauna

As you start waxing/sugaring consistently your hair will become noticeably softer, finer, and more sparse over time. Book your next session 4-6 weeks after your appointment for smoothest results.

what is sugaring?

Sugaring is considered an ancient Egyptian art form of hair removal dating back to 1900 BC. It has now been more modernized for us in spas and salons but still holds true to being an ancient art. It’s 100% natural, using 3 simple ingredients: sugar, water, and citric acid. It is also completely water soluble (hooray zero waste)! Most people say that sugaring is less painful than traditional waxing since it’s warmed to body temperature and only adheres to dead skin cells.

do you do extractions during facials?

Marta’s take on extractions is a “less is more” approach. The skin is an incredible organ capable of self healing. Through different techniques we are able to move toxins out of the body aiding in repair and self healing. Gentle extractions will be provided when Marta feels it is necessary and will vary depending on each client.

oops! I forgot to take my makeup off before my facial! is that okay?

Absolutely! Any makeup and excess oils, dirt, debris sitting on the skin will be taken care of at the beginning of your facial.

what should I expect after my facial?

Proper hydration is key in maintaining the benefits of your facial service. Be sure you are drinking lots of water afterward. This will prevent dehydration, continue to flush out toxins, absorb nutrients and help retain your post facial glow. One of the biggest benefits of a facial massage is that it helps blood circulation in the skin which in turn brings nutrients and oxygen to the skin’s surface. This also aids in removing toxins in the body. When blood is circulating, this causes the skin to flush. Having a rosy appearance after a facial is completely normal. In order to achieve the best results and improved skin, consistency is key. Facials are like going to the gym. One facial will not cause lasting changes. With commitment, both at home and in the treatment room, results will show!

what should I avoid after getting a facial?

  • increased heat and sweat which can irritate your freshly exfoliated skin

  • touching or picking at your skin as this runs the risk of spreading bacteria and scarring your complexion

  • over-exfoliating the skin as this can damage your skin’s natural moisture barrier and cause irritation

  • limit sun exposure + if you do find yourself out in the sun do NOT forget the SPF!

  • if possible, avoid makeup applications. Let the skin rest, heal and breathe

how often should I get a facial?

For lasting results, facial services should be booked every 4 weeks since the average person’s skin cells regenerate every 28 days. Facial services will help exfoliate any dead skin cells, nourish, and hydrate the skin to maintain a healthy glow. We recommend getting a 60 or 90 minute facial every month for best and most consistent results as well as following your esthetician guided at home skin care regimen.

describe the lash lift process

Before starting the process your lashes should be free of any eye makeup and excess oils. The artist then applies a silicone rod onto the eyelid using a non-toxic glue. The size of the rod will determine the lift you are trying to achieve which will be discussed between you and the artist. When the silicone mold is on the eyelid the artist then adheres the lashes onto the mold using the glue, curling the lashes up and onto the mold to stay in place for the lifting process. This process is done to the upper lashes only. Once every lash is applied onto the mold and separated, the perm solution is applied. This solution will stay on the lashes anywhere from 5-15 minutes depending on the lash strength and thickness. Once that is done, the solution is wiped off and the setting solution is put in place to neutralize the perm solution. This prevents over-processing the lashes. Once the solution is removed, a lash tint can be added for a more dramatic effect.

how do I know if I’m a good candidate for a lash lift?

There is always a chance of an allergic reaction with any treatment involving a chemical solution, however lash lifts are generally tolerable for anyone and adverse reactions are extremely rare.

It is not recommended for anyone suffering from dry or sensitive eyes. Please refrain from getting the procedure done if you are on any eye medication, have had laser eye surgery, or are pregnant.

is there any aftercare needed once my lash lift is done?

When the treatment is done, you should avoid getting your newly permed lashes wet for the first 24 hours. This includes taking a steamy shower and hot yoga. Please avoid eye makeup and mascara during this time. The longer you let the lashes set the longer they will last. It is also advised to not sleep directly on your newly permed lashes as it can cause them to lose their shape. What COVID-19 precautions are you taking?
